Natural hair: It’s Brooklyn’s 2yr Naturalversary

Thursday, March 13, 2014

Singing…. (Tony, Toni, Tone) Do you know what today is? It’s our anniversary. That’s right it’s been two years since I ditched the relaxers and decided to go natural.

3 weeks after my big chop

After 2 failed attempts in going natural, I finally decided in December of 2011, that I had gotten my last relaxer and I would be going natural and I was going to do it this time-and succeed. I started my transition phase and on March 13, 2012, I did the BC (Big Chop) and the rest was history I was on my way to learning my hair in its natural state.
By month 3 of being natural, I gave my hair its own identity and I named her Brooklyn.

A few fun facts about me & my natural hair
I told not one soul when I went to the salon to get my hair cut off. I wanted to surprise everyone (and I did, lol)
Since being natural I have not tried any protective styling (weaves, wigs or any type of braids)
90% of the time I wear my hair in a high puff.

my favorite style..the puff using water, Miss Jessie's leave-in condish, oil and rubber band

What being natural has taught me thus far
PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE (I can’t say this enough)
Think Healthy hair over length of hair

A few of my favorite products
 Cantu curling crème
 Miss Jessie’s leave-in condish
 Eco Styler Gel (pink)
Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO), Olive Oil and Grapeseed Oil
Aloe Vera Juice/Water mixture

So, far being natural has been one of the best decisions I have made. I am more comfortable with my natural hair now than I have ever been.

Are you natural? How has your journey been so far?

Bobbie

    2. its grown quite a bit. i'm still in the ugly phase though. it has grown to below my ears now, but i wear it like kris jenner, tucked behind the ear. and i'm keeping the back cut low because the back started growing really fast and it looked a mess! lol!
