Here I am sitting at my desk twiddling my thumbs while I should be working. But my mind is elsewhere. Lately I have been excited to get my feet wet in the world of Public Relations (PR) and while I am taking classes in Marketing Management the two is slightly different, but works hand-in-hand.
A few weeks ago I contacted a PR agency inquiring about possibly interning with their agency to gain experience, help the firm in any kind of way and to see if this is something truly I want to get into. I know it’s not all glitz and glamour there is a lot of hard work that goes into PR and I want to see if I am up for the challenge.
Two weeks earlier, I contacted the agency on a possible internship and to my surprise she was looking for an intern. So I forwarded my resume hoping she would call me-and she did. Our first meet-and-greet would take place the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, but at the last minute she had to cancel due to a meeting she was attending (I knew about the meeting as well), so I understood and she promised to call me and she did to reschedule. Fast forward….this is where I think I am getting discouraged. Our meeting has been canceled three times now with the exception of our phone interview (which went well). Is this normal? Is this a sign? Is PR really this busy? I don’t know what to think, but I will remain optimistic. So, now our meeting is scheduled to take place this coming up Friday. Keeping my fingers crossed that nothing unexpected in the PR world comes up or at least until after we meet and I get my first assignment… J
Until next time
